Some conservatives expressed concern and criticism on Sunday following an ABC News report that President Donald Trump plans to accept a luxurious private jet from the government of Qatar.

The report alleges that Qatar has offered Trump a “lavishly outfitted Boeing 787 Dreamliner,” described as a “flying palace” previously owned by the Qatari royal family.

The aircraft is said to include gold accents, luxury bedrooms, and other high-end features, and aviation industry experts told ABC News the estimated value was “about $400 million” before the extra communications and security upgrades required to safety transport a president are installed by the Air Force.

According to ABC News, the Department of Justice has already determined that the reported gift offer does not constitute bribery under federal law.

The report naturally drew criticism from opponents of the president, including some concerns from the right of center.

“The Qatari government is not our friend, cooperates with Iran and its proxies, and funds terrorism and pro-terror propaganda around the world,” radio host Erick Erickson wrote on X.

Other right-leaning figures warned of potential ethical and national security issues, as well as the message such an arrangement could send about American leadership and foreign influence.

Fox News host Mark Levin acknowledged the report, brushed past it, and blasted the country as a haven for terrorists:

There are news reports that Qatar is buying us a jet. Who knows. But Qatar must stop buying our colleges and universities and spreading their anti-American, Jew-hating propaganda and funding terrorist groups and front groups. Their jet and all the other things they are buying in our country does not provide them with the cover they seek. It is a terror state. That is beyond dispute or their bank accounts.

Meanwhile, Jonah Goldberg commented, “Sure appears to be corruption in plain — and plane — sight.”

Others also sounded off:

ABC News reported of the reported gift, “Both the White House and DOJ concluded that because the gift is not conditioned on any official act, it does not constitute bribery, the sources said. [Attorney General Pam] Bondi’s legal analysis also says it does not run afoul of the Constitution’s prohibition on foreign gifts because the plane is not being given to an individual, but rather to the United States Air Force and, eventually, to the presidential library foundation, the sources said.”
