Charlie Kirk on Friday compared the Senate confirmation process to a “financial colonoscopy” during a discussion about Jeanine Pirro’s potential permanent appointment as US Attorney for the District of Columbia.
Pirro, a longtime Fox News host and former district attorney, was named interim US Attorney for DC by President Donald Trump Thursday night. She has left Fox News and is expected to begin the role immediately.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) appeared on The Charlie Kirk Show to discuss whether Pirro would face obstacles in the Senate if nominated to the post permanently.
“Judge Jeanine has been announced as the temporary DC US Attorney,” Kirk said. “Do you anticipate Judge Jeanine to be welcomed by the U.S. Senate? Do you anticipate any problems there?”
Mullin said he did not expect major issues if Pirro is formally nominated.
He added that the paperwork and vetting process could delay a formal confirmation but did not anticipate serious resistance in the Senate.
“If she becomes the choice the president pushed for, which more than likely she will be, I don’t see any reason why she shouldn’t just fly right on through,” Mullin said.
Kirk interjected, “Yeah, no, it’s a financial colonoscopy.”
Mullin laughed and responded, “Yes. I like that. I’m going to use that from now on. But it takes forever.”
“She’ll have to stay in this position for a little bit,” Mullin added. “But I don’t think there’s going to be any problem confirming her at all.”
The senator said his team had already conducted initial vetting.
“We did just a real quick, what do you call them, opposition research, just to make sure we wasn’t missing anything,” Mullin said. “And she is, she’s solid.”
He also predicted that some of Pirro’s past statements on Fox News may be criticized by “libs,” but he saw her as a “solid” pick.
Fox News said of Pirro’s exit from the network, “Jeanine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to The Five over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across FOX News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure. We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington.”
Pirro succeeds Ed Martin as interim US Attorney for DC after his nomination faced bipartisan opposition.
