Pope Leo XIV’s social media presence is causing quite the stir.
Shortly after news broke that he had been selected as the new pontiff, observers began scouring over his X account for clues as to his leanings.
It wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to decipher them. His last post on the platform was a retweet that read “As Trump & Bukele use Oval to 
Feds’ illicit deportation of a US resident (https://bit.ly/3ROMjnP), once an undoc-ed Salvadorean himself, now-DC Aux +Evelio asks, ‘Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?’”
A few posts down, Leo XIV shared articles about Vice President JD Vance’s explanation of ordo amoris, one of which bore the headline “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.”
As a result, President Donald Trump’s most faithful fans online are not taking to the new pope especially well.
“THIS IS THE NEW POPE!” wrote Laura Loomer, the self-proclaimed “white nationalist” with considerable influence on the president. “His name is Robert Prevost. He’s the first American Pope. He is anti-Trump, anti-MAGA, pro-open Borders, and a total Marxist like Pope Francis. Catholics don’t have anything good to look forward to. Just another Marxist puppet in the Vatican”
“The new Pope once retweeted a post about how we need to keep praying for career criminal & drug addict George Floyd. The tweet said, ‘May all hatred, violence and prejudice be eradicated.’ What prejudice? Is that another way to spell FENTANYL OVERDOSE? MARXIST POPE! @drprevost,” she added in a follow-up.
“According to his X/Twitter feed (@drprevost), the newly selected pope trashed Trump, trashed Vance, trashed border enforcement, endorsed DREAMer-style illegal immigration, repeatedly praised and honored George Floyd, and endorsed a Democrat senator’s call for more gun control,” lamented Sean Davis, CEO of The Federalist.
“Is it too much to hope that some 20-year-old ran the new pope’s X account and he never looked at it?” wondered Megyn Kelly.
Charlie Kirk speculated that Leo XIV may have been chosen because the conclave wanted “a voice that is also for the opening of American borders while we have President Trump.”
They appointed a leftwing American Pope to counter rising national populist sentiment and the movements like MAGA who champion them,” submitted MAGA pollster Rich Baris.
Matt Wallace, a Rumble star with 2.3 million followers on X, had a bona fide meltdown.
“New Pope is anti-MAGA,” declared Grace Chong of Steve Bannon’s War Room show. “Prevost is the guy Pope Francis wanted to succeed him.”
“We may be cooked,” mused Babylon Bee editor-in-chief Kyle Mann.

Despite the outrage, the new pope would appear to hold very traditional Catholic views on issues like abortion, transgenderism, and homosexuality.
“Fwiw [for what it’s worth] the new pope is more conservative on abortion and gay marriage than Trump and MAGA are,” observed John Daniel Davidson, also of The Federalist.
For his part, the president himself celebrated Leo XIV’s ascension on Truth Social, writing Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just named Pope,” shortly after the news broke on Thursday.
“It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope,” he added. “What excitement, and what a Great Honor for our Country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV. It will be a very meaningful moment!”
