Bill Maher revealed he scored President Donald Trump’s personal number following their White House dinner, but the comedian insisted there is no “bromance” between the two.
On this week’s Club Random podcast, Maher told guest Lewis Howes that he is open to interviewing the president on his Real Time show and if he asked him, he’d ask personally.
“Would you ever interview him on TV?” Howes asked.
“Yeah, of course. He’s the president of the United States. Are you crazy?” Maher said.
Maher told Howes he did not ask about an interview during his recent White House dinner with the president, but he’s got his number just in case.
“Now you have his team, you can talk to his team and ask him?” Howes asked.
“Well, I’ll talk to him,” Maher said.
“Wow, there you go. You have his cell?” Howes responded.
“Yeah,” Maher said, chuckling.
Howes asked if Trump has been “friendly” since their meeting despite the comedian criticizing him. In a recent episode of Real Time, Maher called Trump’s first 100 days in his second term a “shitshow.”
“Look, we’re not having a bromance here,” Maher said.
Maher’s meeting with the president was put together by MAGA-loyal musician Kid Rock after he appeared on Maher’s Club Random podcast. Maher said the president was “gracious” during their meeting, which included Trump signing a list of insults he’s hurled at Maher over the years.
On the latest Club Random, Maher said he felt “freer” talking to Trump than former President Barack Obama despite the latter being his “favorite president.” Howes noted it was surprising Maher had never been invited to the White House before Trump, and the comedian said he felt he had to “shame” Obama just to get an interview.
“He finally did, but you know, it was at the White House. It was in the interview room. It wasn’t fun,” he said, theorizing someone “around” Obama likely thought Maher was too “dangerous” to be associated with.
